What to expect.
Welcome to this incredible 4-night astrophotography adventure along Tasmania's eastern coast, where we’ll be exploring some of the darkest skies in the world. Over the next few nights, you’ll come with me to visit Mount William National Park, the stunning beaches of Bridport, and the breathtaking Bay of Fires Conservation Area.
These locations offer a perfect combination of pristine natural beauty and ideal stargazing conditions. You’ll have the chance to capture the Milky Way (and possibly the Aurora Australis) in all its glory, with the Southern Hemisphere’s celestial wonders reflected against Tasmania’s rugged coastline. Get ready for an unforgettable journey of creativity, learning, and awe under these magnificent night skies.
This tour will focus on improving your night photography skills each day. In addition, we will also conduct advanced post-processing sessions, employing cutting-edge techniques to enhance your night images and bring them to their fullest potential. I will record the editing sessions which you will have full access to after the workshop is complete.
On the initial day, I'll provide a brief introduction to astrophotography, equipping you with fundamental knowledge and tools essential for capturing remarkable nightscape images akin to my own. Throughout the subsequent days, you'll shadow me as I identify and explain the compositions I choose, allowing you to grasp my precise workflow and various approaches to capturing stunning night images the simple way.
Our Tasmanian astrophotography tour schedule is adaptable, allowing us to modify plans based on weather conditions. Rest assured, we'll keep you informed of any adjustments to the itinerary.*

Itinerary.
In my experience of running workshops, it does not work to have a fixed schedule. Weather conditions can be unpredictable so I like to have a plan but have it flexible depending on the outdoor conditions. Below I’ve outlined what would be covered in each tour.
-
This Tasmania tour will begin at Launceston Airport, where we will pick you up at 2pm and meet up with the rest of the group. From the airport, we’ll drive about two hours to our accommodation at Icena Farm, where we’ll have a general orientation, plan for the next day, and do some MIlky Way time lapse practice on the farm.
-
In the morning we will enjoy a delicious breakfast. After that, we’ll have our first short editing session of the time lapse images from the first night and have lunch provided later in the afternoon. After lunch we will have some time to relax until our evening session. After dinner we will head to our first location, Bridport Tasmania where we will shoot sunset/blue hour at the Bridport Old Pier. Once the Milky Way is visible we will take some night sky images above the old pier to be used for blending. After the last light disappears we will head to Mermaid Beach just down the road to finish out the night photographing the Milky Way with the tide pools and amazing rock formations here. Once completed we will head back to the accommodation and prepare for the next day.
-
We will enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner at the farm whilst editing our images from the night before. We will take a few hours to relax before going out to our next location at Mount William National park where we will photograph the stunning Eddystone Point Lighthouse and Picnic Rocks.
-
We will once again, enjoy catered meals at the farm while doing some more editing before prepping for our final night out under the stars. Tonight we will be heading to The Bay of Fires Conservation Area, specifically Skeleton Bay Reserve and surrounding area if time permits.
-
We will have a farewell breakfast and then get on the road to the airport for drop off.
